There are a few things missing in this story:
- Don't universities have a computer lab where students who cannot afford laptops can work?
- Why don't we hear any stories of other students dropping out of college because they cannot figure ou their laptop? Or is this one special because it runs Linux?
- Where are the stories of the students who can overcome this girl's shortcomings and actually use Ubuntu successfully for college?
- Why didn't she ask for help BEFORE she dropped her courses?

Don't you mean "Ubuntu instead of Windows"?
Whoa, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.
Aside from returning the laptop to Dell, why didn't she purchase XP from her school? FSU sells it for about $20 and my friend's college lets you download it free.
And before quitting school altogether, go to a computer lab to do your work or enlist the help of some CS majors. Geez! I'm embarrassed to be the same gender as her.
I began using Ubuntu when Vista crashed after an update and didn't have a boot disk. I only had to enter terminal once to set up the wifi card, which took mere minutes. (no prior linux knowledge, but I am a resourceful geek)
I haven't encountered any problems learning, thinking or existing because of an Ubuntu install. In fact, it might've made me a little smarter, my GPA has gone up. ;p
People should stop fighting Linux and stop being so ignorant.
Many institutions limit access to their online information. Making this information available will be an asset to all.
