With the release of Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron," I thought it would be a good time to try out an all-Ubuntu installation on my Samsung Q1 Ultra. It's a Q1U-V upgraded with 2GB RAM and the install is temporarily going on a 4GB USB stick. I know darn well that wireless, touch, and other drivers work fine on an Ubuntu Mobile installation so it should be a simple task to figure out how to get the same drivers to work on a "Regular Ubuntu" installation.
It's installing now. I'll post more as I learn more.

I'm looking forward to your results. Have you used any handwriting/note-taking programs in Ubuntu on the Q1?
I hit the wall when it came to getting the Egalax touchscreen driver to work on Ubuntu 8.04 on my original Q1. I hope you are able to push through! My Ubuntu experiment is posted at taxmantheblog.blogspot.com
Just thing that I tried to do this afternoon. I did not go beyond the live CD. Touch screen by default was responsive but not properly. I could select text (whole windows) and click on some things but not others.
Ubuntu-Mobile gets it right with touchscreen but various things did not work out at all for me. I wonder if we can just install parts of that on the regular distro?
Keep us updated, thanks for sharing! If I go beyond the liveCD, I will post -- I want to use a SD drive in the card reader instead of partitioning the existing drive.
I think I'm close tax man. I've switched the driver from using events and now everything tracks more or less correctly. The only thing that seems to be a problem now is calibration. Unfortunately when using /dev/usb/hiddev0 directly the calibration tool stops responding.
