I know I know...
I said so much that I was abandoning Windows blogging on UMPCs for a while - but was looking for a real "laptop" as all my Linux powered devices either lacked the storage or power to generate serious content while on the road. While at the local Fry's Electronics, there was an open box/floor model deal on a Samsung Q1 Ultra (Q1UA000/SEA) that basically saved me around $500. The first thing I did was run restores and upgrade the RAM to 2GB. After that - I realize that Vista isn't all bad on the thing.
After getting everything to work under Vista, I am going to do a full backup of the drive and play with Ubuntu (Ubuntu Mobile - if I can get it working) but still - I have to say that I am rather impressed with how it's performing with the Intel A110 and 2GB RAM.
Als0 - I underestimated the value of a 1024x600 native display. It makes life a lot nicer.
Perhaps I spoke too soon on judging the Q1U?

This seems like a nice device, I'm too thinking about getting one (importet from the US, since its much much cheaper), I'm really looking forward to your thoughts about the Q1U, especially how Linux is performing on it.
What kept me off buying one so far is that its said to not run any Video well under Vista, due to the lack of "horsepower", whats your experience with that?
Looking forward to read more about that device, maybe a comparison to the EEE PC (which is my 2. choice for a secondary device)
Enjoy
Nice, I totally want a Q1U. But with all the wonderful eeepcs out there it is difficult to justify paying double for a Q1.

Vista works great with 2GB of RAM. That's all people need t enjoy it...

Many would say that a device running Vista using a A110 processor is not usable. I personally have the Fujitsu U810 using the same processor and only have 1GB of RAM and runs very well. Of course this won't replace any desktop; but for email, word, excel, light editing pictures, (actually I have loaded Photoshop Elements and works good, iTunes, OneNote, etc... and I'm able to do my work and its very responsive in opening programs. I have the docking cradle for it and dock it after I get home from work and have it hooked up to a 19" LCD, Logitech diNove Bluetooth keyboard, and use a Apple Bluetooth mighty mouse ( I know might mouse its a long story) The docking station setup works great it's almost like a desktop computer. I also have my Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM, 320GB HD with Vista loaded.
