Kevin told me he was turned away by the security to the "press room" because he had a blogger badge. We went in search of the "blogger lounge, We found it eventually.
First of all - it requires traversing the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convenion Center. This means that the lounge is only open a times when he show floor is open to media. The press room is right at the front of the LVCC and the entrance is outside the show halls. Tomorrow I will post a video (a supplement to his post) showing the experience of traveling from one end of the South Hall to the entire other side, then to the blogger lounge.
It's a nice little lounge. Tables. Ethernet connections. Donuts and coffee. A 20 minute walk though thousands of people (out of he way from everywhere) reduces the purpose. We were told that Bloggers and Press are equal except for Bloggers geting their own sponsored lounge. Apparently, some kinds of press are more equal than others.

Hi Dan,
You seem to be suggesting that there should be no distinction between bloggers (amateurs) and the press (professional journalists). While it's true that some journalists are also bloggers, I hope we don't lose sight of the difference.
On this general subject, I recommend a thought-provoking book by Andrew Keen: "The Cult of the Amateur."
Just my $0.02. Keep the posts coming. I enjoy following your mobile adventures.
[Apologies if this amounts to a duplicate post. My first one apparently did not go through.]
Jerry
question is, do one have to be payed by a big media company to be journalist?
what if one was to run a local news paper out of ones basement using older style printing presses?
Of course a journalist can be self-employed. The key criterion is whether one makes a living at it -- being paid either by an employer or directly by one's customers.
We just have to maintain the distinction between amateurs and professionals.
I have done both. Blog and write for other people they both have their bonuses. Don't get paid to blog but get to say what I like without editing - get paid to review but get my copy mucked about with.
If you looking for a new a solid provider of an ethernet service you should have a look a interoute. The have a wonderful service ethernet reach.
Most blogs are a waste of our time precisely because they're badly written and they NEED some editorial review. That's not "mucking about," in my opinion.
All Press is definitely not equal in 'value' - which is another way of reminding readers that, depending on the source of information, where it comes from, some Press are less valuable or worthwhile to read than others. Some media simply tell it like it ISN'T, while other sources prefer to remain accountable for the things they write; Press that hold themselves accountable, that's where you'll get the most valuable and unbiased news from.
All Press is Not Equal Press
Bloggers aside, the media should be more accountable for the things they write, especially when readers depend on them to tell the truth.
