2008: The year of the mobile Linux device

Intel is in force. They have a real dedication to both the platform and the manufacturers providing them. That's what it looks like from here. Journalists are swarming the MID display which has more sqaure footage and devices on display than any UMPC appearance to date.

I am excited. Are you excited? Let's see where this goes.

I think that all these new Linux MID devices are great. Really nice toys. BUT, please tell me how these products are going to be marketed to consumers? The iPhone was the first smart phone that was marketed to consumers instead of businesses. Now how is someone going to convince Joe or Jane average that they need a new 4th screen (TV, PC, Mobile, MID)?

i would not call the iphone a smart phone until the sdk is out and allows the user to install any and all third party apps.

so far i would call the iphone a feature phone with a cute gui. hell, my non-smart sonyericsson Z710 allows for more smarts thanks to it having java support...
