Coffee with ThoughtFix Special Edition - iPod Touch

There's a little bit of misrepresentation in the Apple iPod Touch advertising. Watch the video to find it. It is relevant to UMPCs and to the N800 tablet.

The original video I refer to is here.

You look really upset.. The claim is disputable, but I agree. The browsing on the n800 looks better than on the iPod touch. I own a n800, not the iPod, but from what I can see the browser on the n800 is better. I use opera for speed and sometimes microb when a site doesn't work well in opera.
The iPod is like a gourgous women/man (depending on your choiche :-) Looks great, nice to touch, but then you realise that she/he doesn't connect very well...

Thoughtfix.//go to engadget and (I think) on the 2nd page there is a 'possible bluetooth capability issue' on the Ipod touch. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT IT, and tell us what you think. The n800 is still better :)

Supposedly Apple is going to add flash support for Safari on the iPhone/iPod touch in the (near?) future, so I don't think flash will be a big deal.

I would really like to see the device opened up to developers like the N800, though...

Arjaan :
I have both the Iphone and the N800 (and the 770) and I can say (as far everyone is saying that the ipod is the same as the iphone) :
The Safari is a MUCH, much better browser than the opera on the N800. It's just easier even with a smaller / smaller resolution screen to browse the web.
Widgets like the select box are MUCH nicer to use on the iphone/ ipod, zooming and paning around is way faster, as well as script and pages support. I do a lot more on the iphone browser then I can do on the n800. The only advantage is really going fullscreen on the n800 and having the flash (VERY SLOW) that can only really works for sites that have flash menus etc. Fast animations are crap in the N800 so the flash becomes not so usable for youtube etc.

So, with the clear possibility of copying binaries from iphone to the ipod touch, the ipod touchs having mail, ipod and safari + native applications is a WAY better device and more affordable than the N800.

Ipod touch with 16gigas and a 600mhz processor : 349

N800 with 128 megas and a 220mhz processor: 399.

something is wrong there don't you think?

Incorrect. Craig Hockenberry of Iconfactory has profiled the iPhone using the toolchain and came up with these numbers:

iPhone = 128MB system memory, 8GB storage, 400 MHz clock speed (possibly software throttled).
http://furbo.org/2007/08/21/what-the-iphone-specs-dont-tell-you/

Now the N800 is in fact 128MB system memory, 256 MB builtin storage (expandable to 2x8GB), and a *330*MHz processor.

Not *that* different, is it now?

Another plus for the N800 is that it has a larger screen than the iPhone (4.2" vs. 3.5"). Just saying....

When the ad was playing and it said most advanced mobile browser, I too was preturbed. I'm glad you said everything I intended to.
