Thanks to Hugo Ortega of GottaBeMobile and his amazing video on the HTC Shift, I have decided that my next year of blogging will be primarily featuring this device. I contacted my PR Rep in HTC (whose last contact with me was on April 3 saying "Wait for late summer") saying I have every intention to purchase one when it is available.
My old "Ultra Mobile Challenge" has a major contender. I still have to work out the financial side as it may cost ThoughtFix LLC a good $1500 (depending on final prices and retailers) but it looks like it will be worthwhile. I told my friends at Dynamism to put me on the waiting list. Don't worry - they'll update their site to reflect the Intel A110 chip instead of the VIA chip.
When the HTC Shift is in my hands and software installed, I will turn off every one of my other machines (excepting my Media Center, which will still record shows and serve files) and blog a day-by-day account using the Shift only. I will try mounting it in my car. I will try making a platform on which to watch DVDs in my bedroom. I will see which bags and cases work best. I will use Skype with a Bluetooth headset. I will write. I will edit video. I will contact AT&T and T-Mobile for HSDPA tests in my city.
I may even try Linux/Moblin.
I really wish I heard more from TabletKiosk regarding a 2nd generation UMPC, but the HTC Shift is such an evolutionary leap that it'll be hard for anyone (including the ubiquitous Samsung) to beat it. Even so, I treasure my relationship with TabletKiosk and will continue with my planned hardware hacking mods on my eo. Yes, my next generation of UMPC blogging is upon us. I just have to wait for the device to fall into my hands.

I may not be able to resist, though it would mean significant changes for me. I would have to stop Inking the way I do, and to use the broadband, I'd have to change to a provider I dislike.
I'll be surprised if you can live with the performance of an A110 processor.
Did you see how slow it resumed in Hugo's video?
I will get the Shift also. I hope I can install windows xp so I can get some performance.
Chuck, somewhere along the line, I missed the speed of the processor. In the end, I think I can step backward only ONCE for UMPC (and I did that with my R2H); I must start going forward again. My position on the Shift has shifted.
I did notice the resume was slow, but I mostly use sleep these days. I can forgive that.
I second that decision. After toying with the 770/800 for a few years I think it's time to get my toes wet in this UMPC pool. The 1500 price tag is the only catch.
