Digging around the FCC

What happens at the ThoughtFix office at 2 AM?

I decided to do some searches on the FCC's site for public documents on UMPCs and tablets. My first step was to go through HTC's filings looking for the Shift. My first step was to go through my favorite video of the Shift looking for an FCC ID. I did not find one, but found the model number (CLIO100) and hunted. HTC's filings are interesting, but there is no Shift on file yet.

Unperturbed, I just punched in some dates and put "UMPC" or "Tablet" and a date range of January 1 to today. Here's what I found:

FCC ID: VEOURENV1
Manufacturer: Jensen
Apparent use: Vehicle PC
Partial Specs: 1 GHz VIA EDEN V4, XP Home
Docs on FCC Site: User manual, internal and external photos available

FCC ID: R4R-AIRT700UMPC
Manufacturer: AMTEK
Use/Specs: AMTEK T700 UMPC. Old news.
Docs on FCC Site: Internal and external photos, test reports

FCC ID:VHTEVERUN
Manufacturer: Raon Digital
Obviously the Raon Digital Everun, but appropriate docs are under short-term confidentiality with the FCC.

FCC ID: ID4UMPC8187B
Manufacturer: Arima Computer Corp
Model UM650UV1
Notes: Obviously the Gigabyte U60/Medion MD RIM 1000
Docs: Internal and external photos, User manual that reveals "BAY modules" like GPS and TV Tuner.

Other small things:
  • A few things from Motion Computing when searching for "tablet" in the description (Grantee Q3Q)
  • Something I clearly recognize as a tablet I played with briefly at CES: TabletKiosk's Sahara Slate.
  • A few Windows CE tablet devices for enterprise markets.
  • The Thinkpad X61 Tablet (Lenovo grantee PU5 listed as "Wistron Corporation")
I am sure there are plenty of UMPC devices that I have yet to find because they lacked "UMPC" or "Tablet" in their description.
I was confused when I didn't see any Samsung devices in those searches, so IM'd my good friend Steve (The man behind UMPC Portal) and had him look up the FCC ID so I could see what they had in "Description." Still no luck. Want to know how many file dockets Samsung has with the FCC since January 1? Four hundred fifty. I'll search more later.

I will keep searching regularly and report back when I find anything new.
