I am still waffling on my decision for my 2nd generation UMPC. Now that GottaBeMobile published a fantastic, in-depth video review of the Samsung Q1 Ultra, I see that it's a wonderfully designed yet underpowered device. Unless some drivers, firmware, or tweaks are released to speed up video performance, I am going to stay away from the new Intel UMPC platform chips.
What does that leave? Well, the HTC Shift also uses the Intel Stealey platform, so likely won't perform better than the Q1 Ultra. The Gigabyte U60 uses a VIA C7M at 1.0 GHz, so won't perform any better than my beloved TabletKiosk eo v7110 unless it somehow packs a better graphics chipset in.
The OQO 02 uses a VIA C7M at 1.5 GHz. Hugo Ortega loves his with Vista. I am rapidly changing my tune with Vista too. The improved handwriting recognition, better power management features, and touch improvements are fantastic. I trust the VIA C7M CPU line (having used it in an eo v7110 and a Samsung Q1b) for performance and battery life. However, one of my favorite features of UMPCs is finger control. The OQO 02 requires the digital pen.
Always a trade-off, ThoughtFix. Always a trade-off. I'm still waiting for the perfect one.

Camooooon!
He had all Vista features on! Aero glass with shades and transparency and all other stuff we disable first thing!
Remember your first 7110 installation? It was not a pretty thing ;)
It's same with q1u: it will work super when u optimize it.
Many desktops cant handel Vista vith all candy and disk trashing on....
The only "untradable" feature is vista right?
:)
For me NOPE!
I would install xpe or normal xp pro on it and say bye bye for memory hangry handwriting sw and other tablet stuff ;)
I know! This is really disappointing. And the keys not being backlit? Wow, that's pretty rough. Oy, that OQO is great and all but I'll still be carrying my Axim X30 for the instant-on scheduling, contacts, and Asian language dictionary access. So having a little teeny tiny OQO isn't where I want to be on my yet another device to work into my life. In otherwords, I really want one of the 7 inch screen devices. I'm hoping the 2nd generation Q1 Ultra is optimized for performance, and if that means losing Vista then I can live with it. And hoping it has backlit keys. I happen to really like that thumb keyboard for its instant accessibility. grumble grumble...
