eo v7110 vs. Vista Ultimate: FIGHT!

TABLET KOMBAT!
Sorry - I got Mortal Kombat Armageddon for my Wii and it brought me back to the old days of playing UMK3 stand-up games. Back to business.

I am starting a series of Vista-on-UMPC posts. I realize that I spoke WAY too soon about Vista in my posts in January and am giving it another shot. Planned articles:
  • Bare Installation with driver URLs and clocked segments. I already did the notes on this - just have to type it up. I'll give away the answer: Total time from "drive format" to "everything working properly with Windows Live OneCare and Origami Experience = 2.5 hours.
  • "Upgrade" installation of Vista Ultimate. What stays and what breaks.
  • Getting used to Windows Vista on a UMPC (even without Aero Glass and all the fancy visual effects.)
  • Going Bare - Performance when all visual effects are turned down. Basically it'll look like Windows XP but have all the features of Vista.
  • Media Sharing - I have a Windows Media Center (Vista Home Premium) recording TV for me every day. I will see what it's like to carry that content with me around the house on a UMPC.
  • Interacting with Windows Mobile - I will use my Motorola Q for both internet access and Email/Calendar/Contacts synchronization and write it all up.
With proper drivers and settings, it looks like Vista may work as well as XP on 1st generation Origami UMPCs - especially those of you lucky enough to upgrade to 2GB RAM. If a 1st generation UMPC can do it, it should only get better on generation 1.5 or 2 devices. We shall see. Extra special thanks to certain friends at Microsoft for access to Vista Ultimate.
