After my first round of Vista bashing on my eo v7110, I went back to XP Tablet and haven't looked back. That's a lie: I look back all the time. Over the last months, I've seen drivers, tips, tricks, and hacks that help Vista run on my UMPC and others. I want to give it another go. This time, I'll document every step of the installation and evaluate performance over a number of weeks.
What changed my mind? Well - I've been running Vista Home Premium on my Media Center since I overhauled it. It's now a Core 2 Duo 1.8 with 2GB of RAM and it's oh-so-pretty. I started navigating around in the structure of the system and actually like it. This is after I purchased an iMac Core2Duo because I was expecting Leopard to be out in the weeks following. Mid April rolled around and Jobs & Co decided too chase the almighty dollar and push Leopard back to October, focusing on the iPhone. I feel shafted by Apple on that one.
As for a Linux based UMPC - well, there are some projects on the boiler for that one. In addition to waiting for the MID Linux devices to roll out, I've been hacking around quite a bit on both the Samsung Q1b and the TabletKiosk eo v7110. There are still some important driver issues and interface issues, so it's a ways coming.
Anyhow - Round 2 with Vista: Begin! Of course, my license for Vista Home Premium is now in use, so I have to obtain another Vista license. Stay tuned.
