Teetering on the OQO 02

It's pictured above, sitting on my beloved TabletKiosk eo v7110. I got to hold it at CES. I liked it. I liked it a lot.

I had Dynamism create a quote for me for:
  • OQO model 02
    • 1.5 GHz
    • 60 GB HDD
    • 1.0 GB RAM
    • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Field Accessory Pack
    • Belt Clip Case
    • Double Battery
    • Battery Charging Adapter
    • Car/airplane adapter
    • Mesh cable bag
    • Screen protector 3-pack
  • Docking Station with CD+/-RW optical drive
  • Digital Pen
I'm looking at this and it really is close to a dream UMPC for me. It has a thumb-board and a touchscreen, yet can still fit in a jacket pocket. There are plenty of charging options. There's plenty of storage. The dock makes it a full workstation in a "click."

It's also a lot of money. This would be a huge platform commitment to me: more than I have ever spent on a single system in my life. Should I wait for the HTC Shift? Should I wait for the Shift/OQO 02/Q1 Ultra showdown reviews?

Comments are certainly welcome.

I was about to say(OK, write) the same thing.
Where does the pen go, it doesn't fit into a slot in the device itself, does it?

If the OQO 02 had Intel's new McCaslin platform, I would go for it too. Their current Via chip is simply not powerful enough for my taste.

Okay - Since I can't use my fingers on the digitizer, I can't use it for a car entertainment/GPS device. Time for another UMPC.

I think you can tell it what to do...

seriously, has anyone tried the speech recognition capabilities of XP tablet or Vista?

imagine, smudge free screen! I know, I wish it had a touchscreen also, just for the experience.

I've been trying the speech recognition in Vista and it rocks! From my preliminary testing I'd say its as good as the one's you can buy.
It needs a powerful PC though. The Samsung Q1 just doesn't have enough processing power.

I'd go for the OQO if it wasn't for the non-standard power supply.
