Excellent UMPC case now available!
I was at Fry's Electronics picking up a Stowaway Universal Bluetooth keyboard (review forthcomng) and a bigger memory card for my Nokia 770 and I stumbled across this gem for $29. It's the PERFECT UMPC case! It's rigid, has spare storage and space, and is still much smaller, lighter, and cheaper than a laptop case. Here are pictures:

Sure it's made for a Playstation 2, but it works OH SO WELL. The only thing is that the velcro is actually too long for the UMPC. I resolved that (and made it yet more stable) by putting the UMPC in the stand, then running the velcro over it. I keep it in it's yellow slip bag too for added screen protection.

Today I took the tablets to a coffee shop and interviewed about 7 people with their thoughts on it. That's an upcoming post.

Hi,

i´m reading your blogs with great interest and have researched a little bit on the nokia side of mobile computing.

To me the nokia 770 is a great device, since I´m a linux guru a long time now.

Some reactions from my co-workers:
1. No Phone Book?
2. No Calender?
3. No GSM/GPRS/UMTS builtin?
4. No Navigation
5. What´s it useful for?

1. It´s really a shame, this would have been easy to integrate in ITOS2006.

2. Dates is coming and it´s design is better than everything else I´ve seen so far...

3. This wasn´t on the roadmap. I think it would simply be pointless to have it in the device. The weight of the n770 is the absolute max to hold in 1 hand...

4. This has changed and maemo mapper is great :-) Still there needs to be a bigger memory card to hold a lot of maps.

5. Always the same! Everybody compares the n770 to an PDA...

Some other reactions:
For my parents the display is simply too small and the font size is way too small.
They wouldn´t use an umpc either...

After Reading about the UMPC in your Blog, I´m sure I don´t want such an device for the n770´s tasks! Too heavy...

For Work I would prefer something like Motion Computing´s LS800 or LE1600.
Check it out at http://www.motioncomputing.com/products/
They offer a lot of extensions you are missing with you UMPC - i think.

On the OS Side: The N770´s maemo is superior! It should be ported to other devices.

Just my 2 cents and keep up the good work!

Michael
